New Baby Welcome Basket Program

Celebrate a new baby with Down syndrome with a Welcome Basket!

Dear Future Donor,

“Your baby has Down syndrome.” This news is shared with families staring at their newborn child nearly 5,000 times a year in the United States. At first, this revelation can be shocking, alarming, confusing and even bring tears of sadness to a family. Yet, today is the best time ever to be born with Down syndrome (Ds) as medical, educational and social advances have made life healthier and more inclusive than ever.

Most families do not know how positively Down syndrome will influence their lives, and are greeted with misinformation and outdated stereotypes. We know, we were in their shoes.

We believe that there is an opportunity to celebrate each baby born with Down syndrome and welcome them and their family into the Down syndrome community. We can provide them with accurate information about life with Down syndrome, and access to connections and resources to help them navigate their own personal journey.

You can help!

The National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS) recently launched a new program to deliver welcome baskets for families with a new baby born with Down syndrome. The program is currently serving hospitals in Lake County and 5 hospitals in the northwest suburbs, and we hope to add new areas as the program grows.

Your financial or in-kind donation will help to purchase and fill those baskets with important resources and beautiful gifts to remind the families that first and foremost, a baby was born.

We estimate we will need 40 baskets a year to serve the hospitals currently involved in our program, and each basket is valued at approximately $150.  Your donations can also help us expand the program to reach additional families.

Donations of any amount are welcome.

Suggested giving levels:

  • $75.00 – Sponsor a half basket

  • $150.00 – Sponsor a full basket

  • $300.00 – Sponsor two baskets

  • $600.00 – Sponsor five baskets

  • Other Donation Amount

For information on how to donate items for the baskets, please contact the NADS office at 630-325-9112.

100% of every donation goes toward the costs in providing welcome baskets to newborn babies with Down syndrome, and is tax-deductible since NADS is a 501(c)3 registered charitable organization!

We thank you for your support of this important project!  Please contact us if you are ready to donate!
