Teens & Adults
If you are the parent of a teen or adult son or daughter with Down syndrome or if you are a sibling or other family member, we hope you find the information on these pages helpful. NADS has been serving children and adults with Down syndrome since 1961, and we greatly intensified our support and services to adults in 1992 with the opening of the Adult Down Syndrome Center in Park Ridge, IL. Many of the resources you will find here can also be found on the website of the Adult Down Syndrome Center. NADS continues to partner with Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in operating the Center, and some of our programs are held there, including our Work Experience program, through which high school students can gain work skills, our Aerobics classes, which are led by individuals with Down syndrome, and our Resource Center, which is open to NADS members and Clinic families.
Also on this website in the NADS Discussion Forum, there is a section on “Adult Issues”, which offers an opportunity for users to share and receive information with others.
