Free Celiac Blood Screening
The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center announces it Annual FREE blood Screening and ask the Experts Panel October 15, 2011 8:30 a.m. to Noon.
Celiac Disease is an inherited autoimmune disease that affects the digestive process of the small intestine, which is connected to the stomach. When a person who has celiac disease consumes gluten- a protein found in wheat, rye and barely- the individual’s immune system responds by attacking the small intestine therefore inhibiting the absorption of nutrient to the body. 97% of people with Celiac Disease have not been diagnosed.
There is no charge to be screened, but preregistration is MANDATORY! Registration opens August 15, 2011.

One of the eligibility requirements is if you have Down syndrome.
ASK THE EXPERTS from 10:30-11:30 is open to the public. Bring your questions for a Q&A session with world-renowned experts in celiac disease. They will also host an exhibit area for their sponsors- samples and information will be available beginning at 8:30 AM.
