NADS Pledges $425,000
to Adult Down Syndrome Center
At an international Down Syndrome Conference, a well-known physician described the Adult Down Syndrome Center as a NATIONAL TREASURE and we agree. However, our treasure is in need of help! In response to this need, Advocate Charitable Foundation has embarked on a campaign to raise $3 million to establish an endowment fund. This fund will help cover the costs of patients who cannot pay for their health care. It will also enable the Center to maintain and expand its medical, psychosocial, advocacy and outreach services.
The ADSC represents a partnership between NADS and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Ever since the Center opened in 1992, NADS has shared responsibility with the hospital for its operation. We take great pride in this partnership because it represents a program where families who once despaired of finding even the most basic services now find a compassionate and knowledgeable staff and a wealth of information and support. For this reason NADS has made a commitment to raise $425,000 for the Center over a 5-year period.
Someone recently said to me “If you don’t ask people for help, how are they supposed to know you need it?” So, dear NADS members, we are telling you we need your help to fulfill our commitment to our adults with Down syndrome of today who need and deserve our support now and for our children, the adults of the future.
